HOW IS CELEBRATE CALM DIFFERENT?
Q: We have spent a lot of money on therapy and other programs that haven’t worked. What makes your program different?

– Our strategies are simple and doable. Listen to the podcasts and you’ll hear dozens of them. I can change a child’s behavior with my body posture and tone of voice. That’s powerful.

– Most discipline programs rely on consequences, which are fine. Except that your kids don’t care about consequences. Yes, we will teach you how to get your kids to listen to you without yelling.

But instead of giving consequences for outward behavior, we get to the root of the issues. Most defiance, for example, is caused by underlying anxiety and frustration.

– Instead of reacting to outward behavior with punishment (and consequences that don’t work or lead to your child lying to avoid punishment), we proactively give kids tools to succeed and replace failure with competence and confidence.

– Instead of seeking to control the child’s behavior first, we show you how to control yourself first. The quickest way to change your child’s behavior is to first control yourself.

– Instead of controlling your child’s behavior, we want parents to step back from lecturing and controlling so that your child has the space to step up and become responsible for his own choices.

– Instead of demanding calm or an apology, we lead kids to calm and to contrition.

– When your focus is on changing your child, you lose complete control of the situation because the truth is that the only person on the planet you can control is yourself (or can you?!).

When you focus on controlling your own emotions, you can see clearly to get to the root of the issue and problem solve.

– Your greatest obstacles as a parent are your own control issues and your anxiety over your child’s future. Control yourself and watch your kids change.

– We believe that the nastiest power struggles are actually opportunities to build a closer, more trusting relationship with your child.

– When kids are upset, most parents send their child away from them. We’ll show you how to draw your child to you, at the very moment they need your calm wisdom most.

– You’ll be able to communicate with your tone and words, “Your world is out of control right now. Mine isn’t. I have the wisdom and patience to help you when you are at your worst.”

– Good discipline should always lead to a closer, more trusting relationship with your child—even when the child doesn’t like your choices. Too many programs create an adversarial relationship with the child. You can be the authority figure in the home who demonstrates a quiet confidence kids respect.

MOTIVATING KIDS
How do I motivate my teenager?
You must discover what your child cares about, not what you care about. Remember two words: Mission and Mentor. You must get your kids engaged in purposeful missions, accountable to a mentor. Here’s a three-step process we use. Identify your child’s gifts, talents, and passions. Then find ways for them opportunities outside the home (school, church, neighborhood, community) to use their talents, accountable to another adult.

Listen to this podcast and discover 7 different ways to motivate your kids.

If you want a complete step-by-step guide, get our Motivating Unmotivated Kids CD program here. You can either get this directly or as part of a bundle. Want personalized help? Just email Casey@CelebrateCalm.com with the word MOTIVATE in the subject line and he’ll help you out.

CALMING UPSET KIDS
How do I calm my child down when he gets really upset?
The tool we use is this: “Motion changes emotion.” Movement is a tool that helps a child move from an irrational to a rational state. It’s very effective. The quickest way to change your child’s behavior is to first control your own. We’ll help you lead your child to calm.

MORNING ROUTINE
How do I get my kids out of bed in the morning?
Kirk recorded a special podcast to address this topic in depth. It’s really good so listen here:

SCHOOL ISSUES
How can we get our child’s teachers to understand him like you guys do?
We have found in training hundreds of thousands of teachers that they just need practical tools like we all do. Yes, some are resistant. But most are overwhelmed.

So Kirk recorded two podcasts specifically for teachers. Pass these along to your child’s teachers. Then email Emily@CelebrateCalm.com with the name of your school and city. We’ll send you a one-page proposal for training your school’s teachers. It’s fantastic training and worth the effort.

DVD & SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION
Our church and Small Group would like to host a discussion group with your materials similar to Financial Peace. Do you have a program like that?

Absolutely. It’s powerful when parents gather to discuss their challenges and support each other so they don’t feel alone. You will learn 40 strategies in four video sessions, followed by a group discussion. Click here to learn how to bring Calm Parenting University to your church or small group.

Men in particular love this program because they can relate to Kirk as a Dad talking about his issues. Click here to  get the Calm Parenting University Home Edition for a special price. You can watch and discuss the videos as a family right from your own home.

SCREENS
How do I get my kids off screens?

It’s not always just as easy as saying no. Think about this. What needs are being met by your child’s use of screens? Screens provide order and structure, something predictable, stimulation, social interaction, a challenge, competence, confidence. For kids who struggle in school, video games and screens are sometimes the only thing they do well. Then we come along and say, “Stop doing that activity that meets all those needs!” We have to fill that void with purposeful activities.

Listen to this short podcast to get your kids off screens.

ADHD ISSUES
Can you help a child with ADHD who struggles with impulse control, focus, attention, organization and more?
Our approach is to provide kids with as many tools as possible to overcome their struggles while building upon their natural gifts, talents, and passions. Most of the podcasts provide practical strategies to help kids with these struggles, whether they are diagnosed or not. This is a specialty of ours as the original name of our organization was Celebrate!ADHD.

Yes, we customize our content for schools, churches, synagogues, foster/adoptive care agencies, pre-schools, homeschool conventions, MOMS and MOPS groups, and corporations. Anywhere parents gather, we want to be because this message changes relationships. We address issues in kids ages 2-22.

DEFIANCE
How do you get a child to stop being defiant?
Yes, we’ll show you how to handle outright defiance with calm confidence. Most of the kids we work with exhibit outwardly defiant behavior, but inside they are very frustrated or anxious. Once we get to the root of the defiance, we can prevent it in the future. The nastiest moments, filled with emotion, are actually huge opportunities to build a closer, more trusting relationship with your child. Here are two of our favorite podcasts:

Defiance: Teaching without Escalating

Controversial: Kid Flips Off His Dad
